#420 Assault With a Marijuana Plant is Just Silly

Yep, that's a weed assaulter's smirk.
Deputies say Lakeland man attacked his brother with marijuana plants

Among all of the superheroes I know of in the world today, Florida Man is the most bizarre. Florida Man does all kinds of crazy shit and I'm not quite sure how it relates to fighting crime but one thing I do know is that there is no stopping Florida Man!

Two brothers were arguing in their yard, it got physical and Rodney grabbed the nearest thing he could and used it to beat his brother. Nearest thing he could lay hands on? Pot plants. He yanked them up and used them to hit his brother.

I'm guessing his pillow was too far away.

Of course, when the cops came, they realized what idiots these guys are, searched the house and found drug paraphernalia and hauled Rodney off to the pokey for an overnight and more.

Here's a thought, if you don't live in a state where growing marijuana is legal then maybe consider not drawing attention to your cultivation, eh?

#405 Make Sure That The Weed You Are Busting Someone For Isn't/Aren't Daisies

I'm totally seeing double. Or not.
Whoops-a-daisy: 'Significant' outdoor bust in Lethbridge history wasn't weed

All police will concede at this point is the 1,624 plants torn from a suburban Lethbridge garden on July 30 isn’t marijuana, as first claimed after a phalanx of police marched in and starting plucking.

“This is a significant bust, given the size of this operation,” is how a senior officer put it at the time, while proudly displaying garbage bags full of the dastardly daises.

That same officer, Staff Sergeant Wes Houston, now admits the plant haul was a mistake.
Gee, really? Exactly how does one confuse daisies with marijuana plants unless one has never been exposed to either? And you'd think that one of that "phalanx of police" would also be able to correctly identify that the "drugs" they were yanking up to destroy were clearly not drugs at all.

But nope, they destroyed Ryan Thomas Rockman's garden. He is an admitted medical marijuana user for long term back pain and did have a pretty sizable quantity of weed in his house (1.5 pounds) and a bunch of hash. But they annihilated his garden because good ol' Wes Houston absolutely blows at plant identification.

Or, as likely and probably more so, the cops knew exactly what they were doing when they methodically destroyed Rockman's garden. Harassing pot smokers is a hobby for a lot of assholes.

It is my hope that Mr. Rockman sues the crap out of the police department and targets Wes Houston specifically. The damage they caused is absolutely ridiculous especially since it should have been apparent almost instantly that they'd made a stupid mistake. But egos and pride make even intelligent people do really, really stupid things sometimes too.

#339 Oregano is NOT Marijuana

Virginia Middle School Students Suspended for Oregano Possession
by citing a zero tolerance policy against "imitation controlled substances". That is, they got busted because the teacher thought they had a bag of pot, it wasn't and the teacher felt like a doofus and busted them anyway. With the backing of the school board.

Seriously? So I can presume the school cafeteria was raided shortly after these boys were suspended? I mean, come on, we know there's stuff in there that could be construed as an imitation controlled substance. When I was kid I heard about some other kid that desperately wanted to get high so he smoked some nutmeg. It got him really high, so high he went into convulsions and got to spend the night in the hospital.

Zero tolerance policies are often used as convenient means of removing common sense from any disciplinary proceedings. Its just plain stupid and I'd hope the families of the boys are planning on suing the school and the board for blowing the situation way, way out of proportion to the "crime".
